If you are referring to playing on the Batcave server, then it has to do with the internet connection I have on the server. The server itself is fine. It's a dedicated PII-266 with 128Meg RAM running Linux.
The server is running from a cable modem, but my provider basically sucks. They don't seem to know what they are doing, and my internet connection comes to a halt every now and then. That's why you're seeing the plug appear. This doesn't just happen with Quake2, it happens with anything I'm doing on the net.
Because the server is telling you, the client what to display on your screen, if there is a bad connection your flashlight won't follow where you are telling it to go. It's no different than when you are running along and totally freeze up. You aren't receiving the information from the server telling your client where to move your player to.
No matter what game you are playing on the net, if the speed between you and the server isn't good, you'll get those lagged effects. That goes for Quake, Quake2, Unreal, Half-Life and all the rest too.
The solution is for me to get a T1 at home or for people to try different servers. Of course, any donations are welcome. :)

: As one of those who has completely fallen for this KICKASS mod I have a question about the problem with most peoples ping skyrocketing. (Since i have a T1 at home i'm more used to sub 50 ping. (just had to say that ;-)) This saturday, sneaking around as usual while getting some tips from one of the observing ^^devs^^ (don't remember who, thanx m8 :-) that hateful unplugged tp-socket showed up on my screen.
: Since I (think I) have understood that this is not a server problem, but has something to do with the clients i popped the Q and asked what the problem might be. The dev guy said something about that it was the clients ping that determined the "crispiness" of flashlight. I didn't really get it so i just reply'ed "aha... oki.. thanks" (i was totally in the game you know...)
: Maybe someone could explain it some more, and perhaps suggest a solution or way to minimise the problem.
: Thanks in advance for any help, and thanks for making another great MOD that keeps me from getting my M.Sc. in another year :-)
